Is rising a tube five cm to spill beans consider simultaneously

by on Sep.19, 2018, under Uncategorized

If the rising happens before the spilling it would count (remember that for a task to count, it has to occur from the direct action of a simple machine…so a simple machine would have to cause the tube to raise 5cm and a simple machine would have to cause the beans to spill for each of those tasks to earn points!)

Does it count as raising an object if you drop a bouncy ball and it bounces?

by on Sep.19, 2018, under Uncategorized

A simple machine has to perform the task.  If a ball is dropped and bounces, no simple machine is being used to cause the bounce.

What can be classified as a screw?

by on Sep.18, 2018, under Uncategorized

I copied this definition below from a simple machines website.  Hope this helps.  You can also google simple machines and screws to see more examples of screws.

The screw is really a twisted inclined plane. It allows movement from a lower position to a higher position but at the same time it moves it in a circle. That makes it take up less horizontal space. A screw can also act to hold things together in some cases.

Some examples of the uses of a screw are in a jar lid, a drill, a bolt, a light bulb, faucets, bottle caps and ball point pens. Circular stairways are also a form of a screw.

No, just as long as they do not all happen simultaneously.

When you spill the beans does the can have to hit the ground and spill the beans or just spilling the beans out of the can? If so would all 10 beans have to come out of the can or 1?

by on Sep.17, 2018, under Uncategorized

I will define “spill the beans” for all the groups because I know this is a question everyone is asking.

All the beans need to leave the container they are in, but no the container does not need to fall.  So the container may fall suspended in the air, but all ten beans need to leave the container to count.  I hope this helps clarify.

Can the tasks happen simultaneously once the device is triggered?

by on Sep.14, 2018, under Uncategorized

No – the tasks cannot happen simultaneously, but they can all happen from the action of one simple machine.   For example, you may have one simple machine perform several tasks in a certain order, but they cannot happen all at the same time (simultaneously).
